The ADTR high flow intake tube is a fairly straight forward installation on all 1996-2011 model Crown Vics, Grand Marquis and Town Cars. There are some small differences between the different years though and below we’ll explain the differences you’ll encounter on installation:
On 1996-2004 model year Panthers there are two vacuum fittings on the intake tube near the throttle body. One hose connects from the driver’s side valve cover and the second hose connects from the idle air control valve that’s located on the upper intake plenum right up against the wiper cowl. Because we use a 3″ wide silicone coupler to connect the throttle body to the ADTR intake tube, the bung location for the vacuum fittings are reversed compared to stock. It does not matter what order the hoses are connected to the intake tube. As long as they’re both connected, they’re both getting vacuum signals and doing their jobs. A properly set up intake tube should look like this:
On 2005+ model year Panthers the intake tube changes and uses only one bung with a breather hose that runs down to the valve cover. The following are instructions on how the vacuum connection should be completed.
- Locate the breather hose assembly on the driver’s side valve cover that connects to the stock air intake tube. To disconnect the fitting, use your fingernail or a small pocket screwdriver, raise the tab away from the body of the fitting and pull gently. Only remove the end of the hose from the stock air intake tube.
- Remove the stock air intake tube from the vehicle and install the ADTR intake tube in it’s place. Adjust the silicone and t-bolt clamps until the pipe aligns. You may have to move and twist the pipe and silicone until everything aligns and fits correctly. Make sure the silicone is completely on the mass air flow sensor and throttle body so there’s no vacuum leaks. Once it’s positioned correctly, tighten all t-bolt clamps. On all 2005+ model pipes there will be one 3/4″ vacuum bung capped off and the other 5/8″ bung has a piece of 5/8″ PCV hose with clamps. The pipe should look like this once installed:
- Take the supplied adapter and insert the barbed end into the 5/8″ PCV hose on the ADTR intake tube. Once installed, it should look like this:
- Finally you’ll attach the valve cover breather hose assembly onto the adapter coming off the ADTR intake tube by gently pushing until you hear a click.
Make sure all fittings and clamps are tight, remove all tools from the engine bay and start the car. Double check for leaks and then go take it out for a test drive. Enjoy!
